   Ranch History

Ranch History The TX Ranch is on the Montana-Wyoming border ~ not in Texas! In about 1897 our great-grandfather bought a herd of cattle that had the TX brand. Since this brand wasn't yet registered in Wyoming, he kept it.

We were established as a working guest cattle ranch in 1976 ~ long before "City Slickers" hit the screens!

We are happy to say that many guests return to the TX Ranch. In fact, some have been faithfully returning annually for 20 years! More than 70% of our guests are repeats ~ maybe not every year, but whenever they are able. Most working guest ranches have nowhere near such a loyal clientele.

About 50% of our guests come from England. We also have visitors from Germany, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Italy, France and even Australia and New Zealand. And we cater to all ages.

The TX Ranch has a lot of cattle to be taken care of, as one might expect on a ranch covering 45,000 acres (which includes leased land from the Crow Indian Reservation, Custer National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management). Our ranch houses are located 20 miles from Lovell, Wyoming. The ranch runs northeast for 50 miles around the Pryor Mountains with the beautiful Big Horn Canyon as our eastern boundary. The altitude varies between 3800 and 5000 feet (not including the Pryor Mountains).

Being located between the Pryor Mountains (home to wild mustangs) and the Big Horn Canyon, the scenery is spectacular. Along with the wildlife, old homesteaders' cabins and an abundance of wildflowers, this is a photographer's paradise! Photographers and other guests who prefer not to participate in the daily horse riding and cattle work are welcome. Enjoy this photographer's smorgasbord as we show you around in a ranch vehicle, but still feel free to ride with the cowboys if it looks like fun!

We are proud of our versatility, so please write or call and we'll arrange a vacation that will suit you.

Many of our guests describe their visit with us as "the vacation of a lifetime!"
