Overview
The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch – Cattle Drives & Working Cattle Ranches Cattle work is what sets them apart and cattle work is the signature activity of The Hideout. The Hideout legitimately boasts more genuine and necessary cattle work than any other guest ranch bar none. Whatever cattle work – branding or cattle drives – that you might participate in, there is no make-believe or pretend about it at the ranch.
Accommodating a maximum of 35 guests, this working guest ranch, located on one of the oldest and largest working cattle ranches in the American West, offers a unique combination of an authentic cowboy experience combined with excellent food, accommodations and 1:1 personal service.
Encompassing over 250,000 acres, the 100-year old Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch horse and cattle ranch is since four generations owned by the Flitner family. Nestled at the base of the Big Horn Mountains, Big Horn National Forest and Cloud Peak Wilderness (13000 ft +) at an hour’s drive from Cody, in the tiny hamlet of Shell, Wyoming is where you will find this little jewel and hidden paradise.
The Hideout is not your typical dude ranch. A combination of American and European family members with dedicated staff, operate The Hideout guest ranch, the historic Trapper Creek Lodge & Guesthouse Trail Riding Guest Ranch, and the secluded Upper Hideout at 8200 feet.
This is big country, with an unseen diversity of scenery. Due to the vastness of the ranch and being a real working cattle and horse operation, The Hideout is an adult-oriented, upscale guest ranch for guests of around the world. During the summer season, the ranch can accommodate families with older children that can ride and handle horses. They are open year around. Spring and autumn are very intensive working cattle days.
Your choice of accommodations varies from upscale to very upscale. You can stay in comfortable, warm log cabins or the resort style Hideout Homes or rent out the historic Trapper Creek Lodge. The choice is yours, the cattle work remains the same regardless of the accommodations you decide to stay in.
The Hideout is usually booked well in advance due to a high repeat guest ratio and accommodates guests in English, French, Dutch, German and Spanish.
The Trapper Creek Lodge offers a smaller scale, more traditional guest ranch experience, with a variety of trail rides in this extraordinary country.
At The Hideout you are neither customer nor client, but an honored guest of the Flitner and De Cabooter family.
