Overview
In 1989, a number of local ranchers and their families participated in Montana’s “Big Drive Across Montana”. Those ranchers came away from the “Big Drive” with the idea that maybe they could recreate that drive on a smaller scale for guests interested in the experience. So Powder River Cattle Drive was born. Their philosophy is aptly summed up in a quote by the late, great, western artist, Charlie Russell, which goes something like this, “one can see what is man-made from the seat of an automobile. But, one can only see what God created from the back of a horse.”
In addition to the ranch vacations, you can choose to take part in a wagon train. Picture yourself and your family riding horseback or in covered wagons over the rolling hills and pine topped ridges of Scenic Southeastern Montana. This area is rich in the history of Native Americans and Pioneer forefathers and you will have the opportunity to travel many of the same trails they did. Transport yourself back in time by exploring the heart of “Custer Country” where many of the skirmishes leading up to the Battle of the Little Big Horn took place.
You will experience long days in the saddle and a feeling of accomplishment when the day is done, the camaraderie of friends made, campfires, two-steppin’ cowboys, and scenery so spectacular it will make your eyes ache.
