Overview
McGinnis Meadows Cattle & Guest Ranch is an authentic working cattle ranch nestled amidst larch and aspen trees, rolling meadows, and unending timbered hills in the northwest corner of Montana. The Davis family homesteaded the ranch in the 1890s and cattle moved onto the scene in the 1920s. The owners today, Shayne and Jo-Anne Jackson, established it as a guest ranch in 1998. In addition to the 500+ acres that make up McGinnis Meadows Ranch, they lease over 75,000 acres from Plum Creek Timber Company for their summer range; spectacular country surrounding a wildlife refuge that makes you say "Now this is Montana!"
The ranch's main emphasis is their horse and cattle program. You'll experience horses that are comfortable working cattle, roping, or just leisurely heading out and exploring country. Beginner riders to experienced leave here with more knowledge about horses, horsemanship, and cattle than they've experienced anywhere else. With approximately 15 to 19 guests per week, they can better know you, work with you individually, and tailor each day to you. It's exciting for them to see how much you progress in the week.
Although riding is the main emphasis, the ranch location lends itself to an abundance of outdoor experiences. Excellent fishing is available on local rivers and lakes just minutes from the ranch. These crystal-clear waters abound with brook, brown, cutthroat, and rainbow trout, bass, perch, and pike. In addition, two miles of McGinnis Creek runs through the ranch property. Hike to the ridge-top from the ranch and see the Cabinet Wilderness Area, mountain bike the abandoned old logging roads, or just listen to the rustling leaves of the aspens from your private deck.
McGinnis Meadows Ranch is made up of people who love this way of life. You will find "more" here, from the care put into the lodging and meals, to the care of the horses, fine custom tack, and excellent facilities. "More" in the sincerity of the staff as well as the owners, Shayne and Jo-Anne Jackson, and "more" in what you find in yourself, and what you can do. You will experience a well-rounded program centered on what these horses can do with cattle, and will leave here a better rider wanting "more". Some say this is heaven. No ... it's just paradise.
