Ted Mikita, Jr.: Second Generation Owner

Ted Mikita, Jr.: Second Generation Owner Ted is a second generation owner and original organizer of Laughing Water Ranch. Born in Oak Park, IL, schooled in Montana and Annapolis, Ted joined the Navy out of high school and became a P-3C antisubmarine patrol pilot. His parents purchased the Ranch in 1972 and lived there with Ted and his seven brothers and sisters. Ted left the Navy in 1987 and became a pilot with Northwest Airlines. He proposed that the family turn the homestead into a guest ranch, which came into existence in 1988. He splits his time between his flight schedule and the Ranch where he lives with his wife Lacretia and daughter Tallulah.

   Our Children's Program

Our Children's Program Our children's program is specifically set up for safe children/horse interaction. They will learn about the nature of horses, horse care, and receive riding instruction that is geared for children. We recommend you bring your own helmets if you wish for them to have head protection.

The LWR Riding Experience & Riding Program

The LWR Riding Experience & Riding Program Laughing Water Ranch is nestled in a beautiful mountain valley just west of Glacier National Park. We have western riding orientation Sunday evening, followed by basic trail riding instruction Monday morning with a short ride that afternoon. The riding is scenic trail riding in groups of 2 to 7 persons plus guide. You have the option of a short ride or long ride Tuesday - Friday, except for Wednesday rafting day. We want to help you realize your vacation dreams. Our trails through aromatic pine forests and over exhilarating mountain trails encompass all levels of riding ability.

At Laughing Water Ranch we love People, Horses and Montana and putting the three together for “the best vacation ever” is what we’re all about.

The Riding Program here at the ranch is designed for all levels of riders no matter what your experience and skill level. Our riding instruction is well known for it’s thoroughness and emphasis on safety. From the timid beginner to the full time horse trainer we offer something for everyone. Return Guests can broaden their horizons by assisting the wranglers during roundups and on the trail. The wranglers are trainers, breeders, ranchers and instructors and have years of knowledge and experience that they can share with you on a daily basis to help you become the cowboy or cowgirl you’ve always wanted to be.
