OverviewBurnt Well Guest Ranch is a small, family-owned and operated ranch in the warm, sunny climate of southeastern New Mexico, 16 miles from the nearest highway, with three generations living on the ranch. This is not a dude ranch but an actual working cattle and sheep ranch. The name “Burnt Well” came from back in the homestead days. One of the wells on the ranch, in those days, was used by nesters who owned sheep. The big cattlemen were trying to run off the nesters and get rid of the sheep. When the nesters wouldn’t leave, the cattlemen burned down the well and threw posts down it. Through the years since then, that well where Kim’s mother lives, has been known as Burnt Well Camp.
The owner, Kim Chesser, is a lifelong cowboy from a long family ranching tradition. He was born and raised on this ranch and not only has a love of this way of life but a greater of love of people. His wife, Patricia, is also a native New Mexican, who is ready to see that your comforts are taken care of. She rides when she has time, cooks good ole country food and provides sweet fiddle music around the evening campfire.
Their easy, warm hospitality puts you instantly at ease. They know how to make you feel welcome and they like to have fun. They have a special passion for strengthening the family and want to provide a place where families from grandparents on down can get away from the high-tech, fast-paced life, get dirty, and have some fun.
At Burnt Well Guest Ranch you can participate in whatever level of actual ranch life you wish, or just relax and reconnect with yourself, your family or nature. With guest capacity of two families or a total of only ten weeklong guests, they can make your interests their interests. There is always plenty of riding, from checking fences and waters or driving cattle to new pasture. They will take time to carefully match your riding level, beginner to experienced, to the appropriate horse and tack; make available riding lessons or refresher courses and put them to use by blending them with the riding opportunities of that day. Your safety and enjoyment will be top priority. Give them a call - they love to talk about their way of life and the dying skills of the cowboy, and want the chance to visit with you before your reservations and arrival. Burnt Well Guest Ranch looks forward to having you join them for some good, old cowboy fun. Do as much cowboying and get as dirty as you want and leave the rest up to them. They’ll give you some memories to talk about for a while - maybe a lifetime! | ||
