Overview
Aspen Ridge Resort is part of the historic Fishhole Creek Ranch, which was homesteaded in the 1800s. The 14,000-acre working cattle ranch is 18 miles off a country highway, surrounded by national forest land. High mountain meadows lined by timbered ridges are home to the ranch’s thousand head of cattle and a resident population of elk, deer and other wildlife.
The handcrafted log lodge and cabins of the resort, nestled on a ridge overlooking a native meadow, are comfortably elegant. Huge rock fireplaces and beautiful antiques in the 7,000 square foot lodge invite guests to relax and enjoy the view from the restaurant, lounge, and great room. Ping pong, television with VCR, and a library are available in the game room. Lodging accommodations are in private cabins or lodge rooms.
The defining feature of Aspen Ridge is its working cattle operation. A ranch of this size and reputation with facilities for guests is truly unique. Visitors are given a chance to see, and participate in, a way of life that is disappearing in today’s world. Each season brings new demands for the care and health of the livestock. Daily, from late spring through fall, cowboy check, doctor or move cattle. Guests can come along on horseback if they choose, experiencing ranch work firsthand.
The pride of family ownership is the foundation of Aspen Ridge. Owners and hosts, Steve and Karen Simmons, are involved in every aspect of the ranch and resort. From caring for the cow herd to barbecuing and steak for dinner, the Simmons family and their staff have a personal commitment to giving their guests an unforgettable experience on one of Oregon’s finest cattle ranches.
